Beginning
Chinese, Level I -
Introduces basic language concepts in Mandarin,
with the use of games, rhymes and skits.
Culture will be introduced in each lesson as
well as familiarization of the Chinese
characters.
Global
Child has published 24 different curricula in
French and Spanish.
We offer four levels of courses:
- Play
& Learn
- Beginning Lower
- Beginning Upper
- Theme (continuing courses for children who have
completed a Beginning course).
Children
may BEGIN the program at any age between 4 and
11. Emphasis is on listening and speaking.
French
& Spanish Course Descriptions Play & Learn
-
designed for our youngest learners. Using
Songs and movement, children act our many verbs
and "visit" farms in
France/Mexico. They learn the names of
animals, act our the animals and chose a family
member to accompany them. Classroom
instructions (Sit down, stand up, statues, clean
up) are taught with songs. "Duck,
duck goose," pinning the tail on the
various animals, fitting together animal puzzle
pieces and a wolf chase are games children will
enjoy.
Beginning Lower
- introduces basic concepts:
counting, colors, greetings and good-byes, snack
vocabulary, body parts, active verbs and a few
questions. Songs reinforce vocabulary and encourage
learning through movement. Weekly handouts
provide review and opportunity for
self-expression. Roll call phrases follow
the "It's time to....." series, using
expressions parents and children can use at home
together.
Beginning Upper
- Introduces basic language concepts:
counting, colors, greetings and good-byes, snack
vocabulary, body parts, common questions and
answers. Upper differs from beginning
lower course in several ways: more
vocabulary is taught within each topic, there
are fewer songs and the songs are more age
appropriate, there are more games and games are
more complex, and reading is introduced
Themes, or continuing courses
- build on concepts already taught in Beginning Lower or Beginning Upper. There is a
different theme every year: "Home &
Family," "School Life," or "Going
Places." Listening and speaking skills continue to be
emphasized, but opportunities for reading are expanded and writing is introduced.
