Founded
in 1992, by two world language
experts in the field of early
language learning.
Owners Maribel Powell and
Diana Hibner together bring over
a decade of Global Child
experience to the organization.
Global
Child Inc. works with elementary
and middle schools to offer
foreign language programs.
Currently Global Child is
being successfully run in 24
communities throughout
Massachusetts, in both public
and private schools.
The program
emphasizes listening and
speaking skills through a unique
combination of movement,
singing, games and snacks.
Classes are held in the
children’s schools
immediately before or after
school. We can offer mid-day
classes to accommodate
kindergarten students.
Classes meet once a week
for 50 minutes.
Included in the tuition
each student receives a Global
Child booklet and audio CD (a
$20 value) which
help jump-start a child’s
language learning and provides
the foundation for what can
become a life-long benefit,
weekly handout and snack, which
are related to the
lesson.
By
enrolling your child in the
Global Child program you are
preparing them for our global
economy. Global Child believes
children should learn about
the culture as well as the
language so we incorporate
culture into the curriculum.
Research
shows that the earlier children are
exposed to foreign languages the
better. When children are exposed at
an early age they are more likely
to speak as a native speaker in
the language.
Children have an innate
ability to acquire multiple
languages. Children are curious,
and able to imitate sounds
perfectly. They are open-minded,
and unlike adolescents, they are not
self-conscious about making new
sounds. They are not concerned
about appearing silly while
participating actively. This
natural ability diminishes with
age.
Early
second language studies shows
that it:
- Leads
to higher performance in
other academic areas.
- Enhances
problem solving skills.
- Heightens
creativity.
- Sharpens
understanding of native
language and culture.
- Enables
greater intellectual
flexibility.
Global
Child teaches children the same
way they learn their mother
tongue, through a series of
games, songs, and skits.
Children learn to communicate
with short, simple sentences,
and later more complex sentences.
Reading and writing are
introduced in our Theme
curriculums for continuing
students.
